Example Contract Scenario
The following example attempts to show how the contract keepers rule will work for a given team
After 2003 season, team awards:
4 year contract to Vladimir Guerrero
3 year contract to Carlos Beltran
2 year contract to Kerry Wood
1 year contract to Jose Vidro
After 2004 season ends, team has the
following:
Vladimir Guerrero still under contract for 3 more years
Carlos Beltran still under contract for 2 more years
Kerry Wood still under contract for 1 more year
Team has 4 years to spend on new contract keepers - gives 2 year contract to Carlos
Zambrano, 2 year contract to Wade Miller
After 2005 season ends, team has the
following:
Vladimir Guerrero still under contract for 2 more years
Carlos Beltran still under contract for 1 more year
Carlos Zambrano still under contract for 1 more year
Wade Miller still under contract for 1 more year
After the season ends, the team trades Vladimir Guerrero and hence is refunded the
remaining portion of his contract (2 years)
Team has 7 years to spend on new contract keepers
etc, etc, etc
